Senior Python Engineer

About the role

In this role you will modernize a next-generation financial data platform, designing and implementing a unified entitlements solution that streamlines admin, approval, and reporting across diverse products. Our Client is a London-based leader in harmonized Level 1–3 historical market data for global capital markets. You’ll work on a strategic project to simplify technology, build a single authoritative entitlements database, and shape a consistent experience for key user personas.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve connectors between the entitlements application and the Lab’s entitlements APIs, implementing and maintaining get/set operations for S3 access point policy contents and source-of-record database interactions using Python-based AWS web services
• Own the publishing and updating of customer-specific entitlement views into Snowflake and Databricks tenants, ensuring accurate propagation of entitlements data and its linkage to customer accounts to improve performance and reliability of downstream Data API queries
• Collaborate closely with architecture, data, and API teams to shape the technical design of the entitlement connectors and Data API changes, providing confident, robust input that aligns AWS-based web services, Snowflake/Databricks views, and UI experiences
• Develop and enhance AWS-hosted web services in Python using Flask or FastAPI running on API Gateway/ECS against Postgres and Snowflake databases, ensuring secure, scalable, and maintainable integration with entitlements connectors and Data API functionality
• To implement and refine the connector logic that interacts with the Lab’s entitlements APIs, handling custom S3 access point policy content retrieval and updates, and synchronizing these policies with the source-of-record database
• Extend and adapt the Data API to query customer-specific Snowflake and Databricks views that contain entitlement information, updating endpoints and data access patterns so that customer accounts correctly resolve their entitled resources
• To design and optimize data models and view definitions in Snowflake (and where applicable Databricks) that represent customer entitlements, supporting efficient querying and integration with the API and downstream consumers
• Build and iterate on UI components and workflows in Typescript/React that surface entitlement-related data and interactions, ensuring the front end correctly consumes the AWS web services and Data API built on Flask/FastAPI
• Contribute to architecture and technical design discussions, evaluating options for AWS infrastructure (API Gateway, ECS), data storage (Postgres, Snowflake), and connector patterns between entitlements, the Lab, Databricks, and the API
• To leverage Claude coding capabilities to accelerate programming tasks in Python, Typescript, and related technologies, using AI-assisted development to boost productivity while maintaining code quality and consistency with architectural standards
• Monitor, debug, and improve the behavior of entitlement connectors across S3 access point policies, source-of-record databases, and Snowflake/Databricks views, identifying issues and implementing resilient fixes in the AWS-based services
• Collaborate with stakeholders who own Lab entitlements APIs, Snowflake/Databricks environments, and UI domains to align connector behavior, data contracts, and user experience, ensuring the overall entitlements architecture remains coherent and extensible

Requirements

• Strong proficiency with backend web service development using Python, with 5+ years of senior-level software engineering experience building production-grade services
• Advanced Python skills and experience with modern web frameworks such as Flask and FastAPI for designing and implementing RESTful APIs
• Strong knowledge of AWS-based web services architecture, including hands-on experience deploying and operating services on API Gateway and ECS
• Practical experience with relational databases, including designing schemas, writing efficient SQL, and optimizing performance for Postgres-backed applications
• Practical experience with front-end development using TypeScript and React (nice-to-have)
• Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to decompose complex requirements into clean, maintainable, and testable designs
• Advanced communication skills for clearly articulating technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development workflows, including using tools like Claude to accelerate coding, refactoring, and documentation tasks (nice-to-have)
• Familiarity with Snowflake, including previous use in production or analytics-focused projects, and the ability to optimize data models and queries (nice-to-have)
