About the role
In this role, you will build partner-facing APIs that let external organizations work with a healthcare services platform in real time, replacing stale nightly file exchanges with live, reliable answers. You will deliver changes across an established multi-service estate, where your work directly affects how quickly and confidently care teams act on up-to-date clinical information.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services and APIs in Kotlin and Java with Spring Boot, deployed as containers on managed Kubernetes
- Own features end to end across several existing services, from specification to production release, meeting strict latency and availability targets
- Collaborate with client architects, platform engineering, QA, and service owners through a specification-first, pull-request-based review process
- Build secure API access with OAuth2 and a managed API gateway, including per-partner entitlement, usage plans, and rate limiting
- Develop data access with PostgreSQL, Flyway migrations, and Redis caching, keeping response times low under burst traffic
- Apply test-driven development with 90%+ unit coverage, property-based tests, and OpenAPI contract and consumer-driven tests
- Collaborate into infrastructure with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines, adding structured logging, metrics, and tracing for every service
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development with Java and Kotlin, building production services on Spring Boot
- Hands-on experience with Gradle and Maven builds, and with evolving large existing codebases safely and incrementally
- Solid knowledge of REST API design, OpenAPI specifications, and OAuth2-based authorization for external API consumers
- Practical experience with PostgreSQL, schema migrations, and Redis caching in latency-sensitive services
- Strong testing discipline, including TDD, property-based testing, and contract testing between services
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines on a public cloud, preferably AWS
- Good understanding of performance tuning and observability for services with strict response-time targets
- Structured written communication suited to design specifications, code reviews, and distributed teams
- Upper-intermediate or higher proficiency in English for daily collaboration with US-based client teams
