Lead Front End Engineer

About the role

As a Lead Frontend Engineer, you will design and build the user interfaces of complex, modular web applications for our Client, a European public sector organization. You will own the front end of what you deliver — its architecture, performance, accessibility, and security — and act as the technical reference point for the team, from component design and state management through to release via the established CI/CD pipelines. The role requires security clearance, so eligibility to obtain it is part of the selection.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex, modular client-side applications using Angular, TypeScript, and modern build tooling
• Own the quality of the front end you deliver, including responsive and adaptive behavior, accessibility, SEO, and application performance
• Provide technical leadership to the team through code review and knowledge sharing, and work with backend engineers, designers, and stakeholders to turn requirements into working interfaces
• Build reusable components and implement state management patterns that scale across applications
• Integrate front ends with REST APIs and verify those integrations with web services testing tools
• Implement web security practices, including authentication and authorization flows based on OAuth and OpenID Connect
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests, and integrate front-end builds into CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor client-side performance using real user monitoring tooling and optimize asset delivery, including through content delivery networks

Requirements

• A university degree at master's level (or 5 years of higher education) with a minimum of 15 years of IT professional experience
• The candidate must be security clearable or already hold EU-27 security clearance
• Minimum 2 years of experience with HTML and CSS3, with proficiency in HTML5, JavaScript, ES6, CSS3, and SASS
• Minimum 3.5 years of experience with Angular (v14+), including build tooling (Angular CLI, Webpack, Vite), and minimum 3.5 years with TypeScript, together with Bootstrap
• Minimum 2 years of experience with RxJS and minimum 1.5 years with React, with good knowledge of building complex, modular client-side applications using modern frameworks, Web Components, and state management patterns. Experience in Redux architecture is a plus
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in web security and authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect)
• Minimum 2 years of experience with development and DevSecOps tooling, including version control (Git), issue tracking (JIRA), collaboration (Confluence), and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Bamboo), and minimum 1.5 years with REST APIs and with tools for web services testing (Postman, ReadyAPI)
• Experience with responsive and adaptive design, client-side monitoring tools such as Dynatrace Real User Monitoring and Azure Application Insights, Content Delivery Networks such as Cloudflare or AWS CloudFront for optimizing asset delivery, and front-end testing frameworks and tools (e.g. Jest, Karma, Cypress) for unit and integration testing, together with an understanding of key design principles, SEO principles, and accessibility standards
• Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, corresponding to Level C1 or higher (CEFR)
