Solution Architect (Python & JavaScript)

About the role

As a Solutions Architect, you will shape the application and integration architecture of complex web-based information systems for our Client, a large international public sector organisation working in the disaster risk management domain. You will own architectural decisions across the application, database, integration, and deployment layers — balancing security, maintainability, scalability, performance, and cost — and stay close enough to the implementation to diagnose faults and guide the teams building the solution. The working environment is international and multicultural, and the applications involved may contain personal, restricted, or confidential information, so discretion and professional responsibility are essential.

Responsibilities

• Design application and integration architectures for complex web-based information systems, applying distributed and microservice patterns, REST APIs, interface contracts, and identity and access management
• Assess and communicate architectural options in terms of security, maintainability, scalability, performance, and cost, and govern how the chosen architecture is implemented
• Work with development teams and stakeholders in an international setting to align architecture with business needs, participate in multilingual meetings, and transfer knowledge to the teams
• Guide Python back-end and JavaScript/TypeScript front-end implementation, covering REST API design, data modelling, business logic, and application security
• Design relational and geospatial data structures on PostgreSQL/PostGIS and SQL Server, together with web GIS, spatial services, and interactive mapping capabilities
• Define containerisation, orchestration, and automated deployment approaches using Docker, OpenShift or Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Establish practices for data migration, processing automation, metadata, provenance, and quality assurance, alongside monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation
• Manage parallel releases and shifting priorities while preserving continuity, quality, and traceability, and maintain architecture documentation and release management records

Requirements

• Master's degree with 10 years of professional experience, bachelor's degree with 12 years, or secondary education with 17 years, together with a mandatory certification: an AWS Professional-level certification plus at least one relevant AWS Specialty, or a Professional-level or higher cloud certification from another provider
• At least 5 years of professional experience in application architecture and senior software development for complex web-based information systems, and at least 3 years designing APIs, integrating information systems, and applying distributed or microservice architecture patterns
• At least 4 years of professional experience in Python back-end development using Django and Django REST Framework, FastAPI, or comparable Python web and API frameworks, including REST-based API design, data modelling, business logic, and security
• At least 5 years of professional experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, including at least 3 years with a modern framework such as React or Angular, integrated with REST-based back-end services
• At least 5 years of professional experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and/or SQL Server, including database design, querying, and performance optimisation
• At least 3 years of professional experience deploying and operating containerised applications using Docker or equivalent technologies, including OpenShift, Kubernetes or comparable orchestration platforms, and CI/CD or other automated deployment practices
• At least 3 years of professional experience developing or integrating web GIS applications, geospatial data services, or geospatial information platforms, including spatial services and interactive mapping
• Experience with data migration, processing automation, metadata, provenance and quality assurance, monitoring, logging, troubleshooting and performance optimisation, secure software development, architecture governance, technical documentation, release management, and knowledge transfer
• Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, corresponding to Level B2 or higher (CEFR), with excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, the flexibility to adopt emerging cloud services and tools quickly, the ability to re-prioritise in response to urgent requests and contribute to multiple projects in parallel, and a high degree of discretion, integrity, and professional responsibility
