Senior Project Manager (Banking & Regulatory Change)

About the role

In this role, you will lead complex, high-impact projects within a leading UK banking and financial services environment, spanning regulatory change, Finance, Risk, Data, Operations, and Technology. You will take end-to-end ownership of delivery — from mobilisation and planning through execution, implementation, and close-out — working closely with senior stakeholders, leading Steering Committees and executive governance forums, and managing the dependencies, risks, and decisions critical to successful delivery across multiple departments and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex banking, financial, and/or regulatory change projects, owning scope, timeline, budget, quality, and outcomes
  • Translate business and regulatory objectives into clear delivery plans, milestones, priorities, and measurable outcomes in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Manage projects across multiple functions, including Finance, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Technology, and Data
  • Identify, manage, and drive resolution of cross-functional dependencies that could impact delivery
  • Establish and maintain effective project governance, including RAID management, dependency management, change control, financial tracking, and delivery reporting
  • Prepare and lead Steering Committees, Project Boards, and senior governance forums
  • Build strong working relationships with project sponsors and senior stakeholders, maintaining alignment across functions and priorities
  • Take ownership of delivery issues, bringing stakeholders together and driving decisions through to resolution
  • Constructively challenge plans, assumptions, or decisions that put delivery at risk
  • Coordinate internal teams, external partners, and third-party suppliers
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, resources, and commercial considerations
  • Ensure risk, compliance, and control requirements are embedded into project delivery
  • Lead project change management, assessing the impact of changes on scope, cost, timeline, and outcomes
  • Provide clear, commercially aware reporting to sponsors, senior management, and governance forums
  • Lead business readiness, implementation, and go-live activities through to successful transition
  • Apply the most appropriate delivery methodology (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid) depending on project requirements

Requirements

  • 6+ years of project management experience, with substantial experience delivering complex projects within banking or financial services
  • Proven track record leading projects with significant business, regulatory, and technology complexity
  • Strong understanding of the banking and financial services environment, including how business, operational, financial, and regulatory requirements interact
  • Experience delivering projects in areas such as Finance, Risk, Regulatory Reporting, Data, Operations, Lending, or Credit
  • Experience working in a regulated financial environment, with practical understanding of governance, controls, risk, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple departments and managing organisational and delivery dependencies
  • Proven experience leading Steering Committees, Project Boards, or equivalent senior governance forums
  • Strong project management discipline across planning, RAID, dependency management, financial management, resource planning, change control, and reporting
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build alignment and drive outcomes
  • Excellent judgement and organisational awareness, navigating different priorities and stakeholder interests
  • Proactive and structured approach to delivery, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailored for both delivery teams and senior leadership
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Professional fluency in English
  • Desirable: experience within a UK bank or regulated financial institution; experience delivering regulatory change, regulatory remediation, Finance or Risk transformation, or regulatory reporting initiatives; experience working with Finance, Risk, Compliance, or Internal Audit; experience managing external suppliers or strategic delivery partners; PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, or equivalent certification
