ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role, you will support and maintain enterprise-scale database platforms for a growing UK specialist bank serving SMEs and individual customers with a range of lending and saving products. You will contribute to ensuring reliability, performance, and operational stability across SQL Server environments while supporting modernization and automation initiatives within a fast-paced and collaborative engineering environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer, monitor, and optimize MS SQL Server environments to ensure platform reliability and performance
- Support database performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery activities
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and/or Python
- Support and improve CI/CD processes for database and platform deployments
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and Infrastructure teams to maintain and improve operational environments
- Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production support activities
- Contribute to monitoring, automation, and operational improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, backup, and operational standards
- Support modernization initiatives across the bank’s data platform ecosystem
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in administering and supporting MS SQL Server environments (2012 and newer versions)
- Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery processes
- Practical experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell and/or Python
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and deployment automation processes
- Experience with Git-based version control workflows
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Azure
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Upper-intermediate or higher level of English
