About the Role
As a Senior PHP Engineer, you will take ownership of a critical internal tooling ecosystem that supports business operations across a global travel platform. Working closely with product teams and internal stakeholders, you'll maintain and modernize existing systems, develop new capabilities, and drive improvements that increase reliability, visibility, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve an internal PHP tooling ecosystem, ensuring stability, performance, and high availability
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing applications while driving modernization initiatives
- Refactor complex legacy code into clean, maintainable, and scalable solutions
- Design and implement observability practices, including logging, monitoring, alerting, and performance tracking
- Develop new internal tools and features that streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency
- Optimize SQL queries and contribute to database schema design and improvements
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical, high-impact solutions
- Contribute across the stack when needed, working with front-end technologies and backend services
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in PHP development
- Strong expertise in vanilla PHP and experience working without modern frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony
- Advanced knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database schema management
- Proven experience working with and improving legacy codebases
- Strong understanding of software design principles and code refactoring techniques
- Experience implementing observability solutions, including logging, monitoring, and performance analysis
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and maintain business-critical systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working directly with internal stakeholders
- Self-driven mindset with a passion for building reliable, efficient, and maintainable software
