Lead/Architect Test Automation Engineer

About the role

As a Lead Test Automation Engineer, you will design, build, and monitor the automated testing solutions for business-critical web, API, and mobile applications delivered to our Client, a European public sector organisation. You will own the shift from manual to automated testing — integrating automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline for continuous testing and fast feedback on build quality — while continuing to coordinate functional, integration, security, load, and performance testing across the delivery process.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare, and monitor automated tests, and design and develop new or modified test automation solutions that meet the business needs
  • Enable the transition of testing from a manual to an automated approach, contributing to the plan for integrating automated testing within the testing process
  • Collaborate with developers and business analysts to reproduce, isolate, and resolve defects, ensuring clear communication throughout the bug lifecycle
  • Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline to enable continuous testing and provide fast feedback on build quality
  • Create automated test reporting and metrics collection, and report test results
  • Define test plans and test cases, analysing business and technical requirements to identify test conditions and create comprehensive test cases with clear acceptance criteria
  • Construct test scenarios and scripts, and execute tests
  • Coordinate testing across integration, security, load, and performance testing, and verify that completed software features meet specified requirements and are fit for purpose through systematic manual testing

Requirements

  • Master's degree with 15 years of professional experience, bachelor's degree with 17 years, or secondary education with 22 years
  • Mandatory certification: ISTQB Advanced Level Test Automation Engineer, or an equivalent certification
  • 10 years of experience with test automation technologies, frameworks (e.g. Selenium, WebdriverIO), and techniques for web, API, and mobile testing, including knowledge of the eUI Automation Framework
  • 10 years of hands-on experience in the creation of test automation solutions
  • 10 years of experience with a programming language for automation (e.g. Java, Python, JavaScript/Node.js) for writing robust and maintainable test scripts
  • 15 years of experience executing functional, regression, and UAT tests, capturing evidence such as screenshots and logs, and reproducing defects
  • 15 years of knowledge of manual test design techniques (equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, state transition, exploratory) and understanding of acceptance criteria
  • 10 years of experience with test management and defect tracking tools, 15 years of experience in test data management, and experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, GitLab CI)
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, corresponding to Level B2 or higher (CEFR)
